Reviews: Fiskars 9234 62-Inch Pruning Stik
I admit that I had used an earlier version of this pruner before looking to buy one for myself, and liked it. The Pruning Stik has a couple more features and is even easier to use than the one I borrowed from a friend.
I have been frustrated by all the old-style rope pull pruners I've used for years, because of the weight and the effort required to cut larger branches. This design uses a nylon tape that is contained in the lightweight housing, and a slide that you pull to cut. It's easy to grip and easy to poke up into short trees and down into bushes (great with roses - no blood) If you need extra reach, there is another pull knob at the end of the stick to control the cutter with.
The cutting head pivots and locks easily to just about any angle you might need, and it really cuts cleanly. There is another version that has a fiberglass pole for safety and longer extension. I might get one of those too.
I recommend this pruner 100% based on my experiences with it and other Fiskars products. Plus, they give it a lifetime guarantee!
